Malgudi Mumbai Expansion Strengthens City Presence

Malgudi Mumbai expansion continues to gather momentum as the South Indian resto-café has opened new outlets in Borivali West (SV Road), Lower Parel, and Chembur. Co-founded by Padma Shri awardee and music icon Shankar Mahadevan along with Eatopia Holdings, the brand is steadily building a distinctive footprint in Mumbai’s dining scene.

The new locations reinforce Malgudi’s vision of presenting South Indian cuisine through a contemporary yet deeply authentic lens.

A Café That Blends Food, Culture, and Design

Each outlet under the Malgudi Mumbai expansion features an open kitchen, a dedicated Filter Kaapi counter, and interiors inspired by coastal influences, Chettinad-style detailing, and warm, earthy tones. The design language reflects the café’s focus on storytelling and cultural roots.

According to co-founder Shankar Mahadevan, Malgudi is not just about food, but about sharing stories of family, creativity, and heritage through a dining experience.

Reimagining South Indian Cuisine

CEO Chandrashekar noted that the Malgudi Mumbai expansion is driven by a desire to honour authenticity while adapting South Indian flavours for today’s consumer. The menu celebrates regional classics alongside innovative reinterpretations that appeal to modern palates.

Signature offerings include the Mulbagal Legacy Dosa—a century-old recipe exclusive to Malgudi—along with creative dishes such as Ven Pongal Arancini, Podi Cheese Balls, and Bisi Bele Bibimbap.

Regional Plates and Signature Desserts

The Malgudi Mumbai expansion menu also features regional specialties like Paneer Ghee Roast with Neer Dosa, Sri Lankan Tamil Curry with Idiyappam, and Sanchi’s Vegetable Stew with Appam. Desserts such as Elaneer Payasam and Filter Kaapi Panna Cotta add a contemporary twist to traditional flavours.

The beverage menu highlights classic filter coffee alongside inventive mocktails, rounding out a well-balanced dining experience.

The Bottom Line

Malgudi Mumbai expansion underscores the growing demand for thoughtfully curated regional cuisine in urban markets. By blending authenticity, creativity, and cultural storytelling, Malgudi is positioning itself as a standout South Indian resto-café brand in Mumbai’s competitive food and beverage landscape.
